I feel this song really reflects both the sadness, and the potential for peace in the future. Putting the troubles/past behind us and moving forward.

Is Mother Mary the figure that guides the boat to calmer waters?

The King of Swords is very intelligent and logical but lacks emotion and compassion. Everything has to make sense, he analyses situations with logic and reason and isn’t swayed by emotional displays or guilt trips.

He dislikes injustice of any kind and actively supports humanitarian causes. You can always expect a fair and considered opinion from the King of Swords which lend to his diplomatic approach.

The Queen of Swords is an idealist, she is highly principled and can’t bear to see injustice in the world. She can come across as a little stern and unapproachable but this is probably because she follows her head not her heart.

The Queen of Swords is highly perceptive and has the ability to look at the bigger picture and remain objective. She is a good honest friend and can offer valuable advice even if it is somewhat blunt and direct.

The Knight of Swords is flighty and always on the move. He’s elusive and unpredictable and thrives on change.  He has a sharp mind and enjoys activities that provide mental stimulation.

His carefree disposition and quick-witted humour and elusive nature make him somewhat irresistible but this guy is hard to pin down. He may show interest for a while but his need for change may soon lead him down a different path.

The Page of Swords represents communication whether it’s verbal exchange or written correspondence. This can also be the communication of an idea or spreading the word. There may even be idle chit chat which leads to gossip.

The Ten of Swords is a painful card and one of the most feared of the suit cards. Often endings are painful whether it’s the end of a relationship or the failure of a project. Time heals all wounds and once the healing process has completed we can move on with a clear vision and a clean slate.

Often when endings are painful the hurt is accompanied by a sense of relief because the situation had become unbearable.

The appearance of the Nine of Swords can signify a period of worry and stress. The mind is burdened and sometimes sleep is affected by bad dreams or restlessness. These feelings could be caused by guilt or regret for past actions.

We should be careful not to worry unnecessarily; anxiety and mental stress can eventually cause physical damage.

• Dilemma

The Eight of Swords represents a state of bondage and restriction; we might find ourselves in an unhappy situation that we can’t get out of. Or we have to make a choice or decision but we’re caught in a catch 22 situation. You could say ’stuck between a rock and a hard place’.

Clear thinking is needed and fears have to be confronted. The long term consequences should be considered and action taken as we cannot remain bound forever.

The Seven of Swords warns there may be unknown opposition working against you. This card reflects evasive behaviour and avoidance; somebody may have an ulterior motive.

There are times when it pays to avoid direct confrontation; some situations require diplomacy and tact. This card may signify a need for us to be shrewd.

• Calm

When the Six of Swords appears it brings with it relief  and respite after a period of stress or conflict. The worst is over and although there may still be a few obstacles to tackle, life will start to improve.

Sometimes this card reflects a physical move away from a bad situation, maybe a holiday is in order.

• Acceptance

When the Five of Swords appears in a spread it warns us that we are fighting a losing battle. We have to swallow our pride and accept defeat. There are times when no matter how hard we try to change the situation it’s just not possible. The only way to move on is to concede and accept the situation for what it is.

Often it’s better to retreat gracefully rather than bang our head against a brick wall.

• Recuperation
• Healing

The Four of Swords represents a period of rest following illness or stress. Time out is needed to recuperate and replenish our energy levels. Meditation may be required to rest the mind and gather our thoughts.

If we take that time out we allow the healing process to begin.

• Separation
• Sadness
• Conflict

The Three of Swords symbolises sorrow, often caused by a separation. Any negative undercurrents will surface and feelings will erupt. Although this card symbolises conflict and sadness; there is also an element of cleansing.

Once these issues are confronted progression can begin, we can’t progress if we’re feeling frustrated and harbouring negative feelings.

• Stale Mate
• Suspension

The Two of Swords represents a situation of tension we could find ourselves in the middle of some conflict and whilst we’d prefer to sit on the fence we a pulled by two opposing forces.

Something has to give but the dilemma has us suspended, attempting to maintain a balance with no obvious move available.

In these situations we need to face our dilemma head, take the bull by the horns and follow our instincts.

• Mental Clarity

When the Ace of Swords appears in a spread it may suggest a struggle of some sort. Aces bring change but although these changes may be clear in our own mind other may have adverse reactions.

The power in the Ace lends us the upper hand in a situation, there is no confusion we know exactly what we want and have the inner strength to hold our ground. The Ace of Swords is a welcome card during times of conflict or friction.
