“I can’t get no satisfaction!”

He sounds like he has it all but he’s still not satisfied! Careful not to take things for granted.

The 4 of cups is a card of dissatisfaction, boredom or lack of interest in your current situation. It’s not a bad thing to want more out of life but we mustn’t forget to appreciate the things and people that we are already blessed with. Sometimes we don’t know what we have until it’s gone!

Continuing on from the wands court cards; today’s post is about ‘cups people’. Cups people are ruled by water and are therefore ruled by their emotions. They feel, they love, they sense and they nurture.

If we consider the nature of their astrological references we can get a much better understanding of these water people:

• Cancer: Caring and nurturing; their family and home life are paramount.
• Scorpio: Passionate lovers. Intense and secretive.
• Pisces: Romantic, sensitive and highly intuitive.

Obviously there is a lot more to each of these astrological character types than I’ve mentioned above, so it would be well worth getting hold of a good astrology book. I’ve always loved Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs but there is plenty of information available online. I’m by no means an astrologer but my keen interest over the years has helped me no end to understand the court cards.

Here are some of the general associations I have the the cups court cards:

Page of Cups

• A child or teenager – sensitive and maybe a little shy with artistic talents.
• New beginnings, new confidence and love of self.
• Pregnancy/conception
• Good news about matters close to your heart.

Negative

• An insecure and over emotional child or teenager
• Letting a lack of confidence hold you back

Knight of Cups

• A romantic young man who is in touch with his emotions.
• An intense and passionate lover
• A sweet talker who knows how to treat the ladies
• A slightly effeminate young man
• Invitations, dates wining & dining, courtship

Negative

• A promiscuous young man
• Jealous, insecure and over emotional
• A daydreamer with his head in the clouds

Queen of Cups

• A sensitive, compassionate and intuitive woman
• A caring woman with a strong maternal instinct
• A woman who understands the needs of men, sensual and passionate.
• Getting in touch with your own emotions and sensuality.

Negative

• A needy and insecure woman
• A promiscuous woman with underlying emotional issues
• The other woman in an illicit affair
• Using sexuality to manipulate a person or situation

King of Cups

• A laid back, sensitive and compassionate man
• A man who offer advice and understanding
• The man we are romantically involved with
• A romantic soul who loves and understands woman

Negative

• A promiscuous man who manipulates woman
• A man who is so laid back he doesn’t get things done
• A man with emotional baggage

So fitting. Etta James describes the joy that can be felt when you finally meet somebody special. The cup is overflowing with emotion, new, pure and still untarnished. It’s early days but it feels good.

The King of Cups can often represent the man in our lives. He is affectionate and attentive and gives good advice. He may even be a counsellor by profession as he is understanding and patient and easy to confide in.

The King understands the realms of feelings and emotion, he is an intensely passionate lover.

• Intuition

The Queen of Cups is in touch with her emotions, she is affectionate, sensual and truly feminine. She’s a man’s woman she knows what a man wants in a woman and can sometimes use her feminine wiles to her advantage.

The Queen of Cups is kind hearted, friendly and easy to talk to, she is a good listener and understands the emotions of others well. She is highly sensitive and intuitive. At worst she can be needy and insecure and can sometimes find herself playing the role of the mistress.

When the Knight of Cups enters your life he brings with him a romance and sensitivity. A new lover may sweep you off your feet. This card symbolises love and attraction, a marriage proposal could also be indicated.

The Page of Cups is a gentle card and like all pages it represents beginnings. There may be news of a birth, which completely reflects the tenderness and newness symbolised in this card.

The energy of the Page of Cups can take shape as a new zest for life, a new love of oneself or a desire to better and achieve more.

• Ongoing Contentment
• Unity

The Ten of Cups symbolises permanence and emotional security. It can represent a successful marriage or a couple with a strong bond. Although this is a card of love it doesn’t represent the giddy feelings you get when you first fall in love, it’s more a unity built on deep mutual respect and trust.

• Wish Card
• Happiness/Contentment
• Fulfilment

The Nine of Cups is sometimes called the wish card and one of the most welcomed of the suit cards. When we experience the energy of this card we feel joyous, we’re over the moon and things couldn’t be better. This is a time when dreams and aspirations manifest and the rewards are sweet.

• Resignation
• Giving Up

The Eight of Cups signifies that one has given up and abandoned hope. A relationship may have reached a point of no return. One or the other of the parties has resigned to the fact that nothing more can be done and given up hope.

Often these feelings will result in a move when someone literally turns their back and moved on. This is not a happy card and such events could lead to depression and sadness. Although the energy of the Eight of Cups is melancholic, the decision to let go is voluntary. There are times when we must let go of the past so we can embrace the future.

When we experience the energy of the Seven of Cups we are often at a crossroads where there are several options to choose from. It represents our dreams and aspirations, and the potential to see them manifest. First we must make a choice and often this is the most important and difficult part of the journey.

The Seven of Cups warns us to take a step back and look at the options clearly, consider them realistically and choose our path wisely. Sometimes when the right decision isn’t obvious we can become confused, it’s important that we distinguish the real possibilities from the pipe dreams.

• Nostalgia

The Six of Cups represents the past, influences or people. The suit of cups governs our emotions so if this card represents a person it will more than likely be an old flame re-entering our life.

It could also signify a present situation with roots in the past. Quiet time may be spent reminiscing over old memories or reflecting on past actions. A person could reappear from the past that triggers old feelings.

• Betrayal
• Loss
• Regret

The Five of Cups like all fives is not a particularly welcomed card. It represents loss on a personal and emotional level. A betrayal of some sort has caused the relationship to break down, although if there is a seperation it would be temporary.

Although this card symbolises sadness and disappointment there is still an element of hope. This relationship still has hope if both parties can forgive and forget and move on.

• Discontentment / Dissatisfaction
• Boredom
• Emotional Challenges

The Four of Cups suggests that there might be trouble in Paradise. It is a card of deflation and anti-climax. It can represent a mild depression brought on by feelings of disappointment.

A relationship that started with high hopes has hit a rocky patch. One of the parties may have let the other down. The reality of the union has not quite matched the expectations. Perhaps the expectations were unrealistic in the first place.

These feelings can also develop after childbirth and manifest as the baby blues.

The Three of Cups is a card of happiness, celebration and merriment. Friends old and new are gathered to toast either a wedding, christening, Christmas, Birthdays are whatever.

A social event where people are enjoying themselves, there’s chitter chatter and laughter and everyone’s in high spirits.

A relationship may achieve a new level of commitment.

• Unions / Reunions
• Partnerships
• Love

The Two of Cups almost reflects the honeymoon period in a relationship when things are still relatively new but emotionally things seems more cemented.

Neither party can see a fault or a flaw in the other. Think rose-tinted glasses, excitement, emotional harmony and sometimes even blind love.

Business partnerships or contractual agreements are also implied. The Ace of Cups represents unions or maybe reunions.
